| 0 | PI 677346 | 'Bo23' | Zea mays L. subsp. mays | Emilia-Romagna, Italy | NC7 | | | 2016 | DEVELOPED | | | | | | Breeding material | Maize inbred line Bo23 is released because of its high cold tolerance expressed in early sowing and its appreciable agronomic performance. As to cold tolerance traits, Bo23 shows a high percentage of field emergence and a high seedling fresh weight (at the five-leaf stage), which leads the line to excel for plot fresh weight in cold conditions. As to agronomic traits, Bo23 shows a low anthesis-silking interval and a high tendency to develop two ears per plant, thus allowing the achievement of high yield levels (even superior to those of 873). Primary ears has 14 kernel rows and red cob carrying orange semi-flint kernels. As compared with its parental inbred 873, Bo23 sheds pollen three-four days earlier, is 25-30 cm shorter and shows a greater tolerance to Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus (BYDV). Most of these findings for the line per se are substantially confirmed at the hybrid level in combination with the Lancaster Sure Crop tester Mo17 x H99. | 1940841 | PI 677346 |
