2PI 618810'Zapalote Chico 2451F'Zea mays L. subsp. mays Florida, United StatesNC7KERNELS2001DEVELOPEDCultivarWhite kernel floury corn with a purple plant. Improved silk resistance to the fall armyworm (FAW) (Spodoptera frugiperda) and the corn earworm (CEW) (Heliocoyerpa zea), and the corn silk fly (CSF) (Euxesta stigimatias). Resistance is based on chemical antibiosis and conferred by the flavone glycoside, maysin and its chemical analogues. Maysin is present in the emerging silk at levels of 0.52% of fresh silk weight, above the 0.20% considered toxic to ear feeding lepidopterans. Early population often maturing in less than 75 days in tropical and subtropical climates. Does not appear to be photoperiod sensitive.1613720PI 618810

Initial release was 235R3, a restorer in Texas cytoplasm. SC235 is the normal counterpart. Good husk protection and satisfactory virus protection. Combining ability and stalk strength fair. Good downy mildew resistance. Higher than average lysine.1052184Ames 10277
