2W6 62719CA360A-18Madia elegans D. Don California, United StatesW6SEED2025Wild materialIn a field immediately to left of entering Reading Island Trail; matted in its grasses and lots of dry Vitchia. Larger plants in anthesis, seeds collected from smaller plants. Some variation in seed progress of development; also some variation in seed type produced. Mostly large black ligulate seeds, however a very few seem to only have central achenes, and one had tiny almost guitar shaped seeds. Confirmed it was the same plant and species as others. We will be using the black ligulate seeds as our target for this collection. Collection is (of now 07/24/2024/) only from smaller plants that have already gone to seed.2192937W6 62719

4NA 88599RJL2023NC-001Ilex decidua Walter North Carolina, United StatesNA2023COLLECTED02/18/2023Plants growing along a fenceline on a hillside about 10 meters from Interstate 85 (south bound) and approximately 0.65 kilometers south of the North Carolina-Virginia border.36.53904800, -78.1882250086The plant was growing on the upper shoulder of a slope about 7 meters above the highway in part-shade to sun of an upland, well-drained, dry mesic somewhat disturbed site on the fenceline boundary of Interstate 85 (south bound). The area was originally cleared of all vegetation and now, many years later, native and non-native plant species have aggressively recolonized the area. This early successional habitat is dominated by Juniperus virginiana and Liquidambar styraciflua, as well as, non-native species such as Ligustrum sinense, Lonicera japonica, and Ailanthus altissima. The underlying geology of this area is of Permian/Pennsylvanian origin and characterized as the Granitic Rock Formation. It is characterized by megacrystic to equigranular components and includs Castalia and Wilton intrusives.Wild material2141480NA 88599
