0PI 280540'Hyuganatsu'Citrus ×aurantium L. JapanRIV1962COLLECTEDCultivar'Hyuganatsu' is described in the Hodgson (1967), p 551, as a pummelo-like fruit of limited commercial importance. It is described as being "A medium-sized, light yellow, globose to oblong, juicy, sweet-flavored, moderately seedy, late-ripening fruit which requires cross-pollination." Observed at Rio Farms: relatively small fruit for pummelo, pear-shaped, pummelo-like tree (see photo 19 of those taken at Rio Farms). Note: there is an existing accession of C tamurana, PI 226228. The current accession (PI 280540) was acquired due to doubts expressed by WP Bitters (typical WPB!). However, during visit to Riverside in December, 2000 by Dr Jun-pei Morimoto of the Tashimamori Institute of Citrus and Tropical Agriculture and Dr Fukio Ikeda of Tokyo Agricultural University, most Japanese types in the field collection were stated to appear correct, There was some question as to whether C tamurana (PI 226228) was reversed with C ujukitsu (PI 539687), so that accession and PI 280540 should be further observed.
