It is widely distributed in Yunnan, Southeast Szechwan, West Hupeh, East Kansu, and Shensi at altitudes of 5,500 to 7,200 feet. The trees have brownish bark with many oblong whitish lenticels. The bud is large, obovoid, 10 millimeters broad, with 1 to 2 scales, and densely tomentose. The leaves are large, thin, papery, obovate, 12 centimeters long and 6 centimeters broad, acuminate at the apex, and orbicular at the base. This specimen may be a hybrid. 1452275PI 557303
