13PI 246342unknown femalePistacia terebinthus L. FranceDAV1958COLLECTEDpistachio 94 rootstock terebinthus. Seedling selection from P.I. 8521, K-E-3. Seedling progeny are under test as pistache nut rootstocks. Received as PI 8521 and later renumbered as as P. terebinthus type. Has been used for production of rootstocks which yielded (Kerman) better at PI Station, Chico, California, than P. atlantica.1189739PI 246342
14DPIS 27DPIS 27Pistacia mexicana Kunth DAV1900Wild materialUnnamed seedling selection of the native American species P. mexicana-texana group. Originally 4 plants were received at the stations labelled PI 10285 P. mexicana. However the PI inventory lists PI 10285 as a P. chinensis which this is not. Buds were taken from 1 of the original trees and budded on a P. atlantica rootstock so it is not rootstock. This is of interest for its vigor and for its leaf coloring in the spring before growth starts. It is a semi evergreen tree holding its leaves overwinter then coloring before shedding these old leaves and forming new ones. 1000977DPIS 27

PakistanDAV1988COLLECTED09/26/1988Waliabad, Gilgit district, about 120km northwest of Gilgit; collected mostly along the river but also up on scree slopes; general topography = river valley in mountains36.26666667, 73.566666672060Full sun exposure; variable slope; silt soil; fairly stony; good drainage; surrounded by Pistacia Khinjuk, Pistacia Atlantica Cabulica, Fraxinus XanthoxyloidesWild materialType = Almond. Per the collection observation notes of Maxine Thompson: "Nut maturity date September (mostly long down but few nuts still on - the latest tree); easy hulling; nut shape oblong; dark color; no pores on shell; complete suture seal; very hard shell; no retention; nut length 21mm; nut width 15mm; nut weight 1.7g (with hull 6.5g); kernel weight 1.0; % kernel 31; Kernel shape .71; medium kernel intensity; low kernel pubescence; bitter taste; used locally as oil for hair dressing; as compared to wild almond in Chitral, the nuts are larger, smooth stones, thicker hulls, later maturity and many more suckers; extremely prone to excessive suckers."1014166DPRU 1489
