[Note: Dr. David Zlesak received seeds from WLPGR storage for research and raised seedlings that he determined to be Rosa rubiginosa (pers. comm., 2026). It appears all but certain that the parent plant was misidentified and was a naturalized European sweetbriar.]1390553PI 495617

6Ames 36017AS/GD/2023/002/212Gymnocladus dioicus (L.) K. Koch Wisconsin, United StatesNC7FRUIT2023Wild materialKentucky coffeetree in Wisconsin is rather rare. The Wisconsin Natural Heritage Inventory Program currently (2023) lists this taxon in Wisconsin as a species of concern with a state rank of S2 (Imperiled in Wisconsin due to a restricted range, few populations or occurrences, steep declines, severe threats, or other factors.) This accession represents genetics from a localized population with a near equal porportion of male and female specimens. While there are other known locations along the Wisconsin River, this population is producing seeds. The other known locations represent single clones that are distant enough from other existing clones that prevent the transfer of pollen and thus lack the ability to produce seed or will rarely produce. 2141550Ames 36017
