11W6 62649CA180A-14Rosa californica Cham. & Schltdl. California, United StatesW6SEED2025Wild materialWe collected from R californica growing in groupings along levy roads on Desmond, Flint et al and Fitzgerald parcels, as one population. Seeds had 51% viability on avg but phenology and viability varied wildly between discreet patches. Difficult to assess number of plants due to thickety nature of species. We estimate 3 stems per plant. Each stem has about 20 hips. Rose thickets take up cumulatively about 0.3 acres, dispersed over an approximately 400 acre area. Fruit color varied from slightly green and peachy to bright red.2192867W6 62649
12W6 62650CA180A-15Persicaria lapathifolia (L.) Delarbre California, United StatesW6SEED2025Wild materialReceived as Polygonum lapathifolium. White to light pink flowered, no stolons or rhizomes, no hairs on ochrea. For the purpose of this form, 1 spike was counted as a “fruit”, with 14 spikes/“fruit” per plant; spikes had on avg 89 potential seed (at time of collection, different parts of the spike were flowering, pre seed, seed, and post seed). Avg viable seed per spike was 42%. Some additional Persicaria spp also present.2192868W6 62650
13W6 62651CA180A-16Epilobium densiflorum (Lindl.) Hoch & P. H. Raven California, United StatesW6SEED2025Wild materialBjelland parcel was likely flooded in spring but was not at time of collection. Avg 80 fruit per plant, 92% viability, 13 seed per fruit. Magenta flowers, plant slightly sticky. Capsule splits to base, no seed hair tufts. Some insect predation. Some bracts and stems were collected with some fruit with seed, some seed were pressed and shook out of capsule.2192869W6 62651
14W6 62652CA180A-17Asclepias fascicularis Decne. California, United StatesW6SEED2025Wild materialCollecting capsules/pods as they are ready. 172 plants seen on 7/29, fr/plant ranging 0 to 48 and choosing to use avg 9/plant as value for collection calcs on 7/29. Viability 70%, avg 41 seeds per pod. Same calcs used on for subsequent calculations, until 8/27; on this day, we made detailed counts of #plants and #pods and then collected the balance available to make 20%. Lesson learned may include to not do gradual culls; instead, gradually bag pods as they arrive, but make one collection when sufficient pods are ready.2192870W6 62652
