44PI 562648'POLAR'Bromus pumpellianus Scribn. Alaska, United StatesW61992DEVELOPEDPRE 10/01/1992CultivarConsiderable phenotypic variability exists among plants of Polar because of wide genotypic base of the parent clones. About 5% have very pubescent and 60% slightly pubescent nodes. About 75% of the lemmas are slightly to extremely pubescent. Less susceptible to lodging and spread by rhizomes somewhat less vigorously than most cvs. Outstanding winterhardiness in Alaska and produces consistently high forage yields.1457620PI 562648
45PI 562650'ALYESKA'Arctagrostis latifolia (R. Br.) Griseb. Alaska, United StatesW61992DEVELOPEDPRE 10/01/1992CultivarMedium to tall grass, growing to ca. 1.4m in height, with wide, lax leaves and stout rhizomes giving a conservative spreading habit. In open stands, forms dense, robust clumps of leafy stems. Inflorescences narrow and erect to open and lax. Includes both tetraploid (2n=28) and octoploid (2n=56) plants. Recommended for use in revegetation mixes in Alaska where recovery by native species is desired, or in artic, alpine, or coastal tundra regions where many commonly used cvs. may be difficult to establish and maintain.1457622PI 562650
46PI 708344'Alpha'Melilotus albus Medik. The plants are also finer stemmed and leafier than the common sort. They hybridize freely with the common sort.1086715PI 708344

48PI 553105'Anna'Rubus arcticus L. nothosubsp. stellarcticus G. Larss. Västerbottens län, SwedenCOR1988DEVELOPED1980CultivarHybrid raspberries of an American form of arctic raspberry x Swedish form of Arctic raspberryFrom a Swedish parent, R. a. L. ssp. arcticus, the new berry has the typical, exquisite arcticus aroma. An American parent, R. a. L. ssp. stellatus from western Alaska, has given vigour, uniform red colour and flower fragrance. Two promising clones, 'Anna' and 'Linda' have been released. They must be cultivated together, each clone being self-sterile. 'Anna' and 'Linda' can be distinguished mainly through fruit characteristics. Otherwise it is difficult to distinguish clones within the hybrid. Field experiments indicate selected clones to be well adapted in southern as well as northern Sweden. The new arctic raspberry will probably be a speciality item on the market, since its yield is comparatively low, and the berry is firmly attached to the calyx. Attacks of insects and diseases have been rare. Gunny, E. and Larsson, K. 1980. RUBUS ARCTICUS L. SUBSP. X STELLARCTICUS A NEW ARCTUC RASPBERRY. Acta Hort.
