1PI 655306EL-X2Beta vulgaris L. subsp. vulgaris Michigan, United StatesW62008DEVELOPEDPRE 2008Breeding materialEL-X2 has the goal of understanding and broadening the genetic base for Aphanomyces resistance in sugar beet. This line may be useful for a number of basic and applied investigations. In particular, EL-X2 is a sugar beet counterpart to releases EL-X1, EL-X3, and EL-X4 that were developed simultaneously with EL-X2 to examine introgression of Aphanomyces resistance from wild germplasm. In the Betaseed Aphanomyces nursery, the average rating of two Aphanomyces tolerant and two susceptible standards was 2.0 and 7.0, respectively (LSD (0.05)=1.83, average of two late readings), the sugar beet parents SP6822 and 6869 had scores of 1.0 and 5.5, respectively, and EL-X2 scored 4.5.1789740PI 655306

8DVIT 650BastardoVitis vinifera L. subsp. vinifera California, United StatesDAV1983DONATED01/01/1983Cultivated materialType = Wine Grape. Origin = Portugal. Per Grapes, Vines, Grapes, and Wines', pg.216-217: "Although this, one of the world's better travelled vines, is one of the nine varieties recommended for constituting at least 60 percent of red port, it is not one of the most highly regarded. Its chief contribution can be measured in quantity and sugar rather than colour or character. It ripens early, but even higher sugar levels can be achieved by leaving the berries on the vine till the leaves wilt. With such sugar levels, the variety's value is clearly as a dessert wine ingredient and the produce of the few plantings to be found in Australia are used as such. In Australia it has been known, confusingly, as Cabernet Gros and, erroneously, as Touriga. It suffers in severe winter weather and is susceptible to anthracnose. Has not performed well in California. Moderate quality, high sugars."1007789DVIT 650

Young leaves: cobwebby, bronze, deeply lobed. Leaf: small, orbicular 036-2-57; lateral sinuses deep 53, pointed bases; thick, bullate; petioles, veins, and lower surface with rough pubescence; petiolar sinus lyre-shaped; teeth convex, average. Shoot: glabrous, purplish; tendrils small, thin. Cluster: small, cylindrical, compact; berries small, 5 to 8 mm, oval, blue-black. Grown chiefly in Jura, Petit Beclan is a fine wine grape variety. It is a moderately vigorous and moderately productive vine whose wine has character and good color and ages well. Petit Beclan is sensitive to the fungus diseases and is cold tender. Maturity is midseason."1007802DVIT 652

Young leaves: downy, bullate, reddish-yellow, five lobed. Leaf: medium, orbicular 035-2-58; deeply lobed, lateral sinuses 64, club-shaped with pointed bases; clear green, soft, contorted, cobwebby tufts below or pubescent depending on the clone; petiolar sinus lyre-shaped more or less closed; teeth pointed, very narrow. Shoot: ribbed, clear green, glabrous, large tendrils. Cane: clear pale beige or pale pink with abundant bloom, dark brown nodes; large buds with white bud down. Cluster: large, cylindrical-conical, compact; berries ellipsoidal, large, blue-black, bloomed; firm skin and pulp. Growth habit: spreading. A productive, moderately vigorous variety. Cinsaut is considered to add softness and bouqet and blends well with Grenache and Carignane. budbreak is late and maturity is midseason. Cinsaut is sensitive to downy and powdery mildew and botrytis, and it has a tendency to drop its berries at maturity. It is severly affected by yellow spider mites, and the clusters are very susceptible to the grape berry moth."1007849DVIT 658
